Hello everyone! My name is Abigale Hatch, the founder of Certified Witch Care. I never really know what to call myself when talking about my line of work because I am an Esthetician who is completely herbal, but I also dabble in home care, sustainable living, making this blog, and making my beauty products… So… I am a Certified Witch. But as I said before, I am an Esthetician with an Herbal background. I have gone through three different Herbal courses through the Herbal Academy and plan to make my own line of beauty products that are for allergy-prone, sensitive, or just wanting more sustainable products to support their bodies. Because I feel ya there. With every product you try, either topical or internal, giving you sores, makes your skin break out, makes you feel sick, or just does not align with your morals. And so, I am planning to start this business with this blog. To get people more familiar with plants, skincare, and how to support their body and skin through home care. And of course, my title is Certified Witch, so I will be going more in depth with the moon cycles, how to cleanse your mind, spirit, and body, and learn about the nature around you to feel a deeper connection spiritually, no matter what your religion is. Now that you know what this blog is going to be about, let’s get more in-depth about me!
I have traveled extensively throughout the United States—22 states to be exact. And 4 of those states I have lived in, but the Black Hills of South Dakota are where I always come back to and where I am at now. I graduated from high school during COVID, which, with me living in Las Vegas at the time, really affected everything around me, but especially school. And I know what you’re thinking, it affected everybody badly when it came to school, but not me. I thrived during COVID because I was at home, my comfort zone, where I could do my schoolwork and take tests without teachers breathing down my neck. I could light a candle, have some tea, and do things still within a school schedule, but it was way more lenient. With that, though, I still got bored easily, and my anxiety and depression were not doing great. I remember going through every coping mechanism there is to help, but one of the main things that helped was self-care. Doing skincare, writing in my journal, dancing/exercising, and being creative with my makeup. I would have a daily or weekly theme where I would pick a random object or place and base my makeup on that, so you could only imagine how much makeup I went through. It all came to a halt, though, when one morning after using new makeup, my eye was swollen shut. I had sores all over my eyelid, and nothing was helping them. It finally calmed down after about a week, but I still have the scar and am sad to say that wasn’t my only time having those sores. They came back four other times, and it was all because of the skincare and makeup I was using. Which made me think, is there anything safe for my face? Is there a brand where I don’t have to worry about them changing their ingredients, making them a bad brand, or, in general, having safe ingredients for me? I did so much research into finding something that was 100% okay for my skin, but I found nothing. So, I thought if I can’t find anything here, maybe school would help. I looked into Esthetics and started that summer. I learned all about the skin, and learned I most certainly was not the only one with this problem. But I still did not have my answer on how I could have a brand I trusted. Even the products at school, even the customizable facials, still had ingredients that I am allergic to, or made my skin irritable. That just didn’t sit right with me. How could there not be a single brand that is okay for truly sensitive skin?
At this point, I was thinking, if I can’t rely on others, why not do it myself? And so, I did. I started thinking about how I could make these products for all skin types, no matter the sensitivity or allergy. And the only way I could think of was to have actual customizable skincare, where my clients would consult with me or take a Q&A beforehand, and I would customize everything down to the ingredients. They will be in glass bottles, biodegradable packaging, and I will grow the ingredients myself. So, my clients and I know it is ethically sourced. And if I don’t grow it myself, it would be from a local farmer that I will describe more to my client, so they know it is still ethically sourced. Not only that, but I really thought if I were my client, I wouldn’t know if I still could fully trust them or not when it came to making the products, because you never know if they secretly put something else in it and label it under the vaguest description in the ingredients. And so, I thought, why not make a video of me making them? But all of this came with me not knowing a whole lot about plants. Especially ones to put into skincare. And that’s where my herbalism came in. This is my third year in the Herbal Academy, and it has taught me everything I know about herbs. So much to the point it made me expand from just skincare to hair, internal body, and home care. And so that is where we are now. I am making this blog to help me and people like me who just want to have care products that aren’t filled with a bunch of fillers, and to learn all about the ingredients that are put in them.
A disclaimer, though: I am still just a girl who identifies as a witch. I am not a doctor; I am not going to diagnose or cure you (I must make this disclaimer due to legal reasons). All I can say is that this could support your body and be a great addition to your daily self-care. If it does help you to the point where it’s “fixes” your body or skin, great! You’re the one who said it, not me. I never have and never will say any of this is going to fix or cure you. I am just using plants, as a witchy witch, making some potions, and giving people my potions and rituals to see how other people like them, and if they do the same thing that the potions and rituals do to me. So, be wary of some of my lingo. Sometimes I can’t say the words I want to say because I am legally not allowed to. But we will get through it together! Welcome to Certified Witch Care!
